Traditional cultural attractions
Dihua Street
The Dihua Street already began to form during the Qing Dynasty era as merchants gather, which is the entire street from the bottom of Nanking West Road to MRT Daqiaotou station. It is now the largest wholesale and retail market for traditional groceries, Chinese medicine and cloths.
Most people’s impression of Dihua Street is limited to the busy, crowded streets before Chinese New year, but aside from these traditional stores, Dihua Street has also preserved the Baroque style architecture from the Taisho period which has drawn the young artists, leading to an increasing number of cultural, arts and craft shops, giving new life to the traditional market. Walking on this street where the old and new fuses, it also give a special feel different to other major streets in Taipei.
The Taipei Xia-hua City God Temple next to Dihua Street is over a century old, and people often come here to pray for a good relationship or marriage. Jiaxing fish balls are a must-taste local delicacy, and in particular, their fish-skin soup. Dihua Street also has many coffee houses in the renovated traditional buildings, so you can enjoy the atmosphere of Taiwan in the 1930s while you have your coffee.
