Longshan Temple
Longshan Temple, Baoan Temple and Xingtian Temple are known as the three major temples of Taipei. Longshan Temple was built in 1740, and this class two national monument has withstood the test of time, weather and bombardments of World War 2. It is one of the must-visit temples in Taipei whether you are one of the faithful or a tourist. The stone plaque by the temple entrance is from the hand of the contemporary calligraphy master Jing-de Jia, and the bronze dragon pillars in front of the main hall are unique in Taiwan.
The annual lantern exhibition during Chinese New Year, Buddha’s birthday in April, and the Ghost festival in July also draw tens of thousands of faithful. The recently built cultural square building also host many classes and lectures, while around the temple, there are the herb alley, Buddha item street where visitors can buy herbs and various items used for the Buddhism worship.
