Taipei train station commercial circle
The Taipei train station commercial circle is based around the area of its namesake. The main high speed rail, train and MRT station in Taipei are linked together here, making it the nexus for all travellers. After the airport MRT became operational in 2017, the volume of foot traffic became even higher, and numerous stores catering for every need can be found here.
The Taipei train station underground streets provides safe underground passage to pedestrians moving between the different stations, and shops selling cloths, daily necessities, gifts, books, restaurants and coffee shops can be found here, making it a good place to visit while in transit.
The nearby Nanyang Street is the ‘cram school’ street where teens gather, with local eateries abound. The ‘photography’ street where numerous shops carrying photography equipment is at the intersection of Kaifeng and Hankou Street, while Chongqing South Road is known as ‘book shop’ street due to its many book stores.
Chengzhong market has many Taiwanese food stalls, with Zhouji’s satay beef stir-fried noodles, Wuming’s calamari soup, Chengzhong beancurd pudding, Chengzong market lemon aiyu jelly, the Russian style Café Astoria all local favourites. The ‘rear station’ refers to Huayin street and surround areas where clothing, cosmetics, daily necessity wholesalers are located, offering a treasure trove to those with a limited budget.
The Office of the President, the National Taiwan Museum, and 228 Memorial Park are also all within walking distance of the commercial circle.
