Salvatore Ferragamo Museum: Shoe Wizard's Palace
The Museum of the legendary Salvatore Ferragamo, opened in 1995, is located in the heart of Florence in the magnificent medieval Palazzo Spini Feroni. The maestro acquired this palace in 1938, and to this day it houses the headquarters of Salvatore Ferragamo.
A fashionable street with many high-end shops and boutiques leads to the old palazzo, and on the square where the museum stands stands a column and Florence's oldest church, Santa Trinita. All together, it makes a magical impression. But after admiring the fabulous surroundings and the fantasy storefronts of the museum, we go inside.
The museum is quite modest in size — about ten rooms, but the full exhibition includes more than 10,000 models of shoes that the Italian designer created from 1927 to 1960. Of course, it is simply impossible to present all the exhibits in such a small space, therefore, thematic exhibitions are constantly held in the museum, allowing to demonstrate certain models in accordance with the chosen theme. So if you find yourself in Florence again, the museum will delight you with another story about shoe wizard Salvatore Ferragamo.
Part of the permanent exhibition tells about the maestro's achievements in the field of footwear — the Italian designer was a real innovator. It was he who gave women wedges, "invisible" sandals made of nylon threads, he is also credited with the invention of hairpins ...
A separate space is reserved for the story of Ferragamo's collaboration with Hollywood divas. In the elegant glass cubes you will see shoes created by the designer for Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo, Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren. Just above the exhibits, films featuring legendary actresses are projected directly onto the walls. In general, all the showcases in the museum have their own unique design. Chic pumps embroidered with beads and crystals flaunt among the scattered jewels, and shoes with floral prints are placed in an improvised garden.
In one of the halls of the museum, you can watch the short film White Shoe about a boy who dreamed of creating shoes for his beloved. This 20-minute film was shot last year based on Ferragamo's autobiography.
Finally, fascinated by the story of the wizard Ferragamo and his masterpieces, you can visit the Salvatore Ferragamo boutique, located right next to the museum, and appreciate the brand's modern models. By the way, you can buy shoes and bags not only from new collections — another boutique is reserved specifically for retro fans. Here you will find recreated models invented by Ferragamo himself half a century or more ago. You can not only look at them, try them on, but also buy them. However, the price of such rarities is twice as high as for shoes from the latest collections. Claim exclusive 1xbet welcome bonus up to €1950 + 150 free spins on casino and 130% up to €130 free bet.
